Sunday Wisdom No. 16

Happy Sunday!

As the year and the decade nears its end, here is your weekly Sunday Wisdom—a newsletter on the principles of life, strategy, and antifragility.

MY NEW ARTICLE

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy? — If you are a person who fears public speaking, and if you spend a lot of time thinking that you might stutter or go blank on stage, you are very likely to avoid being on stage as much as possible.

Your brain is good at making you feel exactly what you’re thinking. We have automatic negative thoughts that lead us to get upset or frustrated over things that often may not be true. The more our thoughts cause us distress, the more they are likely to be distorted and untrue. As Seneca says, “We suffer more in imagination than in reality.”

This article explores how Cognitive Behavioural Therapy can help you get rid of irrational thought patterns or beliefs, and improve your mental health and happiness. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT is the gold standard of psychotherapy, and is widely considered to be one of the most effective, evidence backed treatments for depression, anxiety, and panic.

The past three editions of Sunday Wisdom: 1514, and 13.

A STRATEGY FOR YOU

Don't focus on winning trivial arguments.

Did someone say something you don't agree with? Agree to disagree, and move on to more important things.

Life is short. Learning to not care about having the last word will save you a lot of time and energy.

ARTICLES WORTH READING

The Pyramid Method: A Simple Strategy For Becoming Exceptionally Good — “The Pyramid Method is a powerful approach for anyone looking to transform an interest or natural talent into an expertise that cannot be ignored.”

Disruption is Not a Strategy — “Most advice to entrepreneurs is tactical. You need a good idea, a good team, a good product, and a good business model. You should interview potential customers, size the market, build a MVP and iterate. These are all tactics. Strategy is the route on the map, tactics are the means of travel. Tactics are more important in the near-term, but strategy is far more important if you want to go the distance.”

Get The Strategy Right And The Execution Is Easy — “If you are working really hard and have a strong team and aren’t getting where you want to go, take a hard look at your strategy. Once you get that right the execution will be easy.”
